Meet Michelle! The woman who prides herself on helping people get back to doing what they love

Bio

Meet Michelle! Michelle hails from Bucks County, PA and has been living in Philly since 2004. She graduated from Drexel University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2008 with a concentration in orthopedics and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The George Washington University.

From an early age, Michelle was always interested in healthcare. She grew up playing sports and loved to exercise. She became interested in physical therapy because it combined her passions. “It gives me the opportunity to heal folks through exercise.”

Throughout the 17 years of working as a PT, Michelle has worked in inpatient settings, outpatient settings, and has been a clinical instructor. She holds certifications in the Graston Technique, the Aligned Flow Yoga Method, and the CAPP certification in pelvic floor physical therapy through the Women’s Health Section of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Origin Story

Michelle started working at Atlantic Physical Therapy in 2011. A few years in an opportunity presented itself. The owner, Michellel’s boss, wanted to sell the business and Michelle bit. She took ownership of APT in 2015. Part of her decision to buy the business was because she knew she could expand its specialities.

Many of Michelle’s friends started having children and needed pelvic floor physical therapy. There were few options for folks needing pelvic floor PT at the time, so she hired a pelvic floor physical therapist to mentor her while she completed her education. Michelle has made APT into an orthopedic and pelvic health practice with a mission to provide high quality holistic care.

Michelle is passionate about treating common pelvic problems such as incontinence and pain with sex. It’s important to her to help as many people as possible so she accepts most insurance and treats all genders.

“We pride ourselves on providing our community with the highest quality of care delivered in an efficient manner.”

Roses and Thorns

“Starting a business when you have no experience in business presents endless challenges. I have always worked as a clinician so marketing, accounting, social media management, and medical billing were all new to me.”

In the beginning, Michelle tried to become an expert in all aspects of running the business. Michelle believes one of the smartest decisions she has made is to outsource the areas she has the least amount of experience to experts. “I hired Erica Conallen as my office manager and medical biller. She is the rock of our office and she navigates the complicated health insurance matrix like no other. I have also enlisted other small businesses like Austin Becker Marketing to handle my Google Adwords. He has done a fantastic job of driving patients to my clinic in a city that is full of huge hospital health system competitors.”

The biggest rose for Michelle is getting to provide the kind of care in the kind of environment that she would want to receive. “I see my clinic as an extension of my home. I get to provide a warm, empathetic, non-judgemental atmosphere where I do everything I can to get my patients to where they want to be.”
