Bio
Meet Michael, Sr.! Born and raised in Philly, he has called this city home for his entire life. He graduated from West Chester University and did an extensive master’s degree in Public Administration at Temple University. Michael worked in government as an economic development professional for 13 years. But his longest profession has been in real estate. He’s been a realtor for the past 43 years. During that time, Michael has often taught real estate classes at Community College of Philadelphia teaching others what he has learned throughout his long career.
Meet Michael, Jr.!- Micheal, like his father, was born and raised in Philly. He graduated in 2016 from the LeBow College of Business at Drexel University with a BSBA in Finance and Economics. After graduation he worked in finance before realizing all he really wanted to do was be part of the family business. In 2021 he became an owner of Forrester Real Estate. Along with owning Forrester Real Estate, Michael is CEO and founder of his own startup company, Rental Rater, a review site for apartments where past tenants can rate their landlords, properties, and neighborhoods.
Michael’s passion for his community and city is seen through the numerous boards on which he serves. He is also an active member of various organizations, such as East Passyunk Business Improvement District, the South Philadelphia Lions, and Covenant House.
Origin Story
Michael Sr. wanted to own his own real estate firm. That opportunity presented itself in 1990 when Century 21 Forrester Real Estate became available. Michael and his then business partner, Paul Borriello, purchased the firm. He has owned it ever since, originally with Paul and from January 1, 2021 with his son Michael, Jr.
Roses and Thorns
For Michael, Sr. his favorite part of being a business owner is the independence and freedom it allows him. Now that his son has joined him the future is very bright. Of course, the paperwork and administrative side of things can be a drag. But working with first time home owners, especially the ones who never thought they’d be able to own their own home is what keeps Michael so engaged and happy after all these years.
Much like his father, Michael, Jr. loves the independence and ability to control his own schedule. He thrives on being the one in control of his professional life. “The success of my business is, in part, mostly due to what I do and what I accomplish – if I don’t have the drive or work ethic to get things done and generate business – it’s simple – I won’t do any business.” Michael acknowledges that owning a small business isn’t for everyone, but to anyone who has ever wanted to go out on their own, he says go for it! “Failure is never a bad thing, you have to learn to grow.”
