Bio
Meet Kevin and Melissa! Both Pennsylvania natives, they met in college and moved to the Philly area in 2006. To no ones surprise, both Kevin and Melissa have a love for craft beer.
Kevin started his career in craft beer at Iron Hill Brewery. He worked his way up from waiting to overseeing six breweries. Melissa’s professional journey however was far away from the beer world. She was a licensed mental health counselor for many years. Eventually it became clear for both of them they needed a change.
Beer is not the only thing they love. When Kevin and Melissa are not working you can find them walking their dogs in the Wissahickon.
Origin Story
Like so many business owners the idea for Love City Brewery came about during a time when both Kevin and Melissa’s careers were in flux. Kevin didn’t like the direction his job was headed and Melissa needed a break from the intense counseling work she was doing.
They spent many a night talking about it in their kitchen, polling their friends, and doing tons of research. After years of work they finally opened their doors to the public in April 2018.
Roses and Thorns
For Kevin and Melissa the best part of ownership is their team. Needless to say, they believe their team is amazing and love spending time with them. “Watching them grow into new roles is the best feeling for us.” All the administrative things, like answering tons of emails and bookkeeping can feel like a slog for these two, but they make sure to keep everything in perspective. “At the end of the day, we’re happy if our team is happy, and if we can look back and say that we made the best choices we could.” Philly is definitely psyched about their choice to open Love City Brewery!
